[Tour report in German here.] The Gemsstock region (Andermatt) offers a great offpiste and ski touring arena. for just CHF 30 the Gemsstock cable car transpots you to almost 300o meters, and in sunny weather you are greeted by a great panorama (further pictures here):
On the backside of the Gemsstock ski area there is great freeriding and a number of easy skitours, such as the Piz Alv (see picture below). If you start early you will be back in the office by early afternoon.
On January 8 2013 I took the cable car up at around 09.00. I was greated by the usual great view:
I skied down to Vermigel Hut and climbed up to Piz Alv for 2 hours (all alone). On top I was greated by two tourers who spent the night at the Mighels Hut (which was open) and there were kind enough to take a picture of me on the top:
More tours and tipps on tours in the region can be found under Ski Touring Around Gemsstock.
